Steering Wheel Replacement LHD

7245 Steering Wheel Puller.

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.

Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.

2. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
3. Remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Steering Wheel Inflatable Restraint Module Replacement.



4. Disconnect the steering wheel electrical connector (2).

Important: Bolts with micro-encapsulated thread sealant must be discarded after removal.

5. Remove the steering wheel to steering column retaining bolt (1).

Discard the bolt.

Important: Observing the orientation of the steering wheel with reference to the steering column will minimise the potential of incorrect steering wheel alignment.

6. Mark the steering wheel (4) in relation to the steering column shaft (3).

Important: The front wheels and steering wheel (4) must be in the straight ahead position before removing the steering wheel (4) from the steering column shaft (3).

7. Remove the steering wheel (4) from the steering column shaft (3). If necessary use the 7245 Steering Wheel Puller.

Important: The steering wheel and steering column shaft splines must be installed in the position recorded during removal and aligned with the marks previously made.

1. Install the steering wheel (4) to the steering column shaft (3).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

2. Install the NEW steering wheel to steering column shaft retaining bolt (1).

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).

3. Connect the steering wheel electrical connector (2).
4. Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module to the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Inflatable Restraint Module Replacement.
5. Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
6. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.

Steering Wheel Replacement RHD

7245 Steering Wheel Puller.

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.

Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.

2. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
3. Remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Steering Wheel Inflatable Restraint Module Replacement.



4. Disconnect the steering wheel electrical connector (2).

5. Remove the steering wheel to steering column retaining bolt (1).
6. Discard the bolt.

8. Remove the steering wheel (4) from the steering column shaft (3). If necessary use the 7245 Steering Wheel Puller.

1. Install the steering wheel (4) to the steering column shaft (3).

2. Install the NEW steering wheel to steering column shaft retaining bolt (1).

Tighten

3. Connect the steering wheel electrical connector (2).
4. Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module to the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Inflatable Restraint Module Replacement.
5. Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
6. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
