Piston and Connecting Rod Disassemble L98, LS2


    Object Number: 1954122  Size: SH

    Notice: Use a piston ring expander to install the piston rings. The rings may be damaged if expanded more than necessary.

  1. Remove the piston rings (1) from the piston (3) using a piston ring expander (2). Place each ring in a clean shop towel for storage.

  2. Object Number: 1954119  Size: SH
  3. Rotate the piston pin retainer until the ring end gap is positioned in the cutout area (1) of the pin bore.

  4. Object Number: 1954120  Size: SH
  5. Remove the retainers starting in the cutout area of the pin bore.

  6. Object Number: 1954121  Size: SH

    Important: The piston and pin are a matched set and are not to be serviced separately. Use a paint or marker pen and mark the orientation of the piston to the connecting rod and the bore number from which it was removed.

  7. Remove the pin from the piston and connecting rod.

  1. Remove the connecting rod bearings from the rod and cap.

  2. Object Number: 490763  Size: SH
  3. Using piston ring pliers, remove the piston rings from the piston.

  4. Object Number: 1366364  Size: SH
  5. Rotate the piston pin retainers until the ring end gaps are positioned in the cutout area (1) of the pin bore.

  6. Object Number: 1559866  Size: SH
  7. Remove the retainers starting in the cutout area of the pin bore.

  8. Object Number: 1559867  Size: SH
  9. Remove the pin from the piston and connecting rod.
  10. The piston and pin are a matched set and are not to be serviced separately.
  11. Mark, sort, or organize the piston and the matching piston pin.
