Tools Required
    • J 23907 Clutch Pilot Bearing Remover
    • J 38836 Pilot Bushing Installer/Clutch

Removal Procedure
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .

    2. Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.

  2. Disconnect the battery ground cable from the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

    3. Caution: Refer to Safety Glasses Caution in the Preface section.

    Caution: Refer to Vehicle Lifting Caution in the Preface section.

  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  4. Remove the transmission assembly. Refer to Transmission Replacement .
  5. Remove the clutch assembly. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement .

    6. Object Number: 1986569 Size: SH
  6. Remove the clutch pilot bearing, using the clutch pilot bearing remover (1).

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 1986575 Size: SH

    Important: Make sure that the crankshaft rear oil gallery plug (1) is not a loose fit, damaged or leaking.

    Important: The correct depth (a) for the oil gallery plug is 31.2 to 31.6 mm.

  1. Apply sealant LOCTITE R 242 and install it to the correct depth, If replacing the oil gallery plug (1).

    2. Object Number: 1986577 Size: SH

    Important: Use a 5/8 inch flat washer (2) against the tool to support the bearing races.

    Important: When installed correctly the bearing should be flush with the crankshaft counter-bore.

  2. Install the clutch pilot bearing (3) to the rear of the crankshaft, using pilot bushing installer (1).
  3. Install the clutch assembly. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement .
  4. Install the transmission assembly. Refer to Transmission Replacement .
  5. Bleed the clutch hydraulic system. Refer to Hydraulic Clutch Bleeding .
  6. Enable the SIR. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
  7. Connect the battery ground cable to the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  8. Road test vehicle for correct operation.
