Front Coil Springs Replacement LWB SWB Clubsport CSV VXR8

Caution: Refer to Safety Glasses Caution in the Preface section.

Caution: Refer to Vehicle Lifting Caution in the Preface section.

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
2. Remove the front wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
3. Remove the front strut assembly. Refer to Strut Assembly Replacement
4. Remove the strut assembly support bearing and mount. Refer to Front Suspension Strut Mount and Bearing Replacement .



5. Remove the dust boot upper retaining clamp (6).

Discard the clamp.

6. Remove the coil spring seat (1) and coil spring insulator (2).
7. Remove the coil spring (5) from the strut unit (4) and release the spring compressor (3).
8. Inspect all parts for wear and damage.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications in the Preface section.




1. Make sure that all components have been cleaned and inspected.
2. Install the spring compressor (3) to the coil spring (2) and compress coil spring.
3. Install the coil spring (2) to the strut unit (4).




Important: The coil spring insulator (2) and seat (1) have a step which locates on to the straight projecting end of the spring. The step must be correctly orientated in relation to the spring.

4. Install the coil spring insulator (2) and coil spring seat (1).

Important: Align the mark on the spring seat with the mark on the strut unit when installing, with straight projecting end of the spring correctly located in the coil spring insulator (2) and seat (1).

5. Position the coil spring (5) and spring seat on the strut unit (4).
6. Install the NEW dust boot upper retaining clamp (6) securing the dust boot to the coil spring seat (1).
7. Install the strut assembly support bearing and mount. Refer to Front Suspension Strut Mount and Bearing Replacement
8. Install the front strut assembly. Refer to Strut Assembly Replacement .
9. Install the front wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
10. Remove the safety stands.
11. Lower the vehicle to the ground.

Front Coil Springs Replacement HSV Except Clubsport

Caution: Refer to Safety Glasses Caution in the Preface section.

Caution: Refer to Vehicle Lifting Caution in the Preface section.

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
2. Remove the front wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
3. Remove the strut assembly. Refer to Strut Assembly Replacement .
4. Remove the strut assembly support bearing and mount. Refer to Front Suspension Strut Mount and Bearing Replacement



5. Remove the dust boot upper retaining clamp (6).

Discard the dust boot upper retaining clamp (6).

6. Remove the coil spring seat (1) and coil spring insulator (2).
7. Remove the coil spring (5) from the ESC strut unit (4) and release the approved spring compressor (3).
8. Inspect all parts for wear and damage, replace any damaged or worn components.
9. Discard the coil spring (5).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications in the Preface section.




1. Make sure that all components have been cleaned and inspected.
2. Install the approved spring compressor (3) onto the coil spring (2).
3. Compress the coil spring (2).
4. Install the coil spring (2) to the ESC strut unit (4).




Important: The coil spring insulator (2) and coil spring seat (1) have a step which locates on to the straight projecting end of the coil spring (4). The step must be correctly orientated in relation to the coil spring (4).

5. Install the coil spring insulator (2) and coil spring seat (1).

Important: When installing the coil spring (4) the correct alignment of the coil spring (4) with the ESC strut unit (3) requires the mark on the coil spring seat (1) to be 180" to the clevis on the ESC strut unit (3).

6. Position the coil spring (4) and coil spring seat (1) on the ESC strut unit (3).
7. Install the NEW dust boot upper retaining clamp (5) securing the dust boot to the coil spring seat (1).
8. Install the strut assembly support bearing and strut assembly support mount. Refer to Front Suspension Strut Mount and Bearing Replacement
9. Install the strut assembly. Refer to Strut Assembly Replacement .
10. Install the front wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
11. Remove the safety stands.
12. Lower the vehicle to the ground.
