Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Right Side With IRS

Tools Required

J 37043 Park Brake Cable Release Tool

Caution: Refer to Park Brake Cable to Caliper Caution in the Preface section.

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 732929  Size: SH
  1. Remove the right rear wheel and tire. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  2. Loosen the adjusting nut.

  4. Remove the right rear brake cable (1) from the connector (2).

  5. Object Number: 1523659  Size: SH
  6. Remove the inner cable (1) from the brake caliper retaining bracket.

  7. Object Number: 1523660  Size: SH
  8. Push the inner cable (1) as far forward as possible.
  9. Rotate the tip of the inner cable toward the brake caliper and remove from the actuator (2).

  11. Remove the brake cable from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the brake cable in the brake caliper.

  2. Object Number: 1523660  Size: SH
  3. Position the inner cable (1) in the actuator (2).

  4. Object Number: 1523659  Size: SH
  5. Pull the inner cable (1) until the tip is seated in the actuator.

  6. Object Number: 1526385  Size: SH
  7. Install the brake cable in the retaining bracket (1) on the brake caliper.

  8. Object Number: 1715698  Size: SH

    Important: Maintain proper rear park brake cable routing and clearances. Verify the rear park brake cables have a minimum of 10 mm and a maximum of 12 mm of clearance to the wheel drive shafts (1). Maintain this clearance using retention straps or equivalent retention (2).

  9. Ensure the rear park brake cable and routing clearances have a minimum of 10 mm and a maximum of 12 mm of clearance to the wheel drive shafts.

  11. Install the brake cable (1) in the mounting bracket.

  13. Install the brake cable (1) in the connector (2).

  15. Install the adjusting nut.
  16. Adjust the park brakes. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .
  17. Install the right rear tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
