Did you review the Automatic Level Control System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn ON the air inflator switch.

Does the automatic level control (ALC) inflator fill valve operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Go to Step 3

  1. Disconnect the air inflator switch connector.
  2. Connect a 10 amp fused jumper from the ALC inflation timer relay coil control circuit to the ground circuit of the air inflator switch.
  3. Probe the ALC inflator solenoid valve supply voltage circuit of the ALC air inflator relay connector with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 4

  1. Disconnect the ALC air inflator solenoid valve connector.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the ALC inflator solenoid valve supply voltage circuit of the ALC air inflator solenoid valve connector and a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 5

Connect a test lamp between the ALC inflator solenoid valve supply voltage circuit and the ground circuit of the ALC air inflator solenoid valve connector.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 9

Repair the open in the ALC inflator solenoid valve supply voltage circuit. Refer to Wiring Repairs .

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 10

Repair the open in the ground circuit of the ALC air inflator solenoid valve connector.

Replace the ALC air inflator relay. Refer to Automatic Level Control Relay Replacement .

Replace the ALC air inflator solenoid valve. Refer to Inflator Solenoid Replacement .

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
