Rear Brake Hose Replacement Disc Brakes

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  3. Clean all dirt and foreign material from the brake hose and the brake pipe fittings.

  4. Object Number: 368814  Size: SH

    Important: Install a rubber cap or plug to the exposed brake pipe fitting end in order to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.

  5. Use a backup wrench on the hose fitting, disconnect the brake pipe fitting from the brake hose, then cap or plug the brake pipe fitting end.
  6. Important: Do not bend the brake pipe or the bracket.

  7. Use a flat-bladed tool in order to remove the brake hose retainer clip (6) from the brake hose (2) mounting bracket.
  8. Remove the brake hose (2) from the brake hose bracket (4).
  9. Remove the brake hose bolt (1) from the brake caliper.
  10. Remove the brake hose (2) from the brake caliper.
  11. Remove and discard the 2 copper brake hose gaskets (3). These gaskets may be stuck to the brake caliper and/or the brake hose end.
  12. Install a rubber plug into the brake hose bolt hole of the brake caliper in order to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.

Installation Procedure

  1. Remove the rubber plug from the brake caliper.

  2. Object Number: 368814  Size: SH

    Important: Install NEW copper brake hose gaskets (3).

  3. Assemble the brake hose bolt (1) and the NEW copper brake hose gaskets (3) to the brake hose (2).
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Install the brake hose bolt (1) to the brake caliper.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the brake hose bolt at rear brake caliper to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).

    Notice: Make sure the brake hose is not twisted or kinked after installation. Damage to the hose could result.

    Important: Use the stripe on the brake hose in order to align the brake hose with the notch in the brake hose bracket.

  7. Install the brake hose (2) to the brake hose bracket (4).
  8. Install the brake hose retainer clip (6) to the brake hose (2).
  9. Remove the rubber cap or plug from the exposed brake pipe fitting end.
  10. Connect brake pipe fitting to the brake hose; use a backup wrench on the hose fitting. Do not bend the bracket or pipe.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting to 21 N·m (15 lb ft).

  12. Bleed the brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding .
  13. Install tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  14. Lower the vehicle.
