Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn the headlamp switch to the PARK position.
  3. Turn the instrument panel (I/P) lamp dimmer switch to the full bright position.

Do all dimming lamps operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Do any dimming lamps operate properly?

Go to Step 4

Test the I/P lamp supply voltage and ground circuits of the inoperative lamp, switch, or component for high resistance or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 15

Test the I/P lamp supply voltage circuit of the body control module (BCM) for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Test the I/P dimming control circuit of the headlamp switch for a short to battery positive voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Test the low reference circuit of the headlamp switch for a high resistance, or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Using a scan tool, command the instrumentation backlight dimming ON, and to full illumination.

Do the dimming lamps illuminate?

Inspect for a poor connections at the harness connector of the inoperative switch, lamp or component. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .

Inspect for a poor connections at the harness connector of the headlamp switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .

Inspect for a poor connections at the harness connector of the BCM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .

Replace the inoperative switch, lamp or component as necessary.
