OWNER REIMBURSEMENT

Owners who have previously paid to have their car repaired because of the vehicle exceeding the original age/mileage limitation, have been instructed to present original paid receipts or invoices to receive reimbursement.

If an owner requests reimbursement, the dealer should bring this to the attention of their Buick District Service Manager for review. The District Service Manager will review the request, and, if it is determined the owner, is eligible for a reimbursement; a letter of transmittal, along with the owners original paid receipts, will be forwarded to the Buick Motor Division Home Office, Customer Assistance Department in Flint, Michigan for handling (sample of suggested transmittal letter included with this bulletin).

The owner should be advised to retain copies of documents for personal records before surrendering the originals. The Buick Home Office will forward all reimbursements directly to owners.

Dear Buick Owner:

Some 1984-85 Buick Century, 1985 Electra, and 1985 Somerset owners may find that their windshield washer pumps don't work properly and need to be replaced, after some period of use. This condition may happen after the new vehicle warranty period. We are writing this letter to tell you about the following Special Policy:

If your windshield washer pump stops working and needs to be replaced, Buick Motor Division will replace it at your Buick dealer at no charge, for a period of 5 years or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service. Please contact your dealer for handling this Special Policy and for information on parts availability.

If you have already encountered this condition and paid for all or part of the repair, you should contact your Buick dealer. You should present the dealer with your original paid receipt or invoice verifying expense incurred for such repair. All requests for reimbursement should be made before August 1, 1987.

This Special Policy only applies to conditions that require replacement of the windshield washer pump. Other problems that may occur in the system are not covered by this Special Policy.

We also recommend that you regularly check your washer fluid reservoir and make sure that the reservoir does not run dry. No matter what the condition of your washer pump, the washers cannot do their job without fluid. And because activating the water system when the reservoir is empty makes the pump work harder, you may be able to prolong the satisfactory operation of your pump by keeping fluid in the reservoir.

We suggest you keep this letter and store it in the glove compartment, along with the Owner's Manual, Maintenance Schedule, and Warranty Booklet.

Buick Motor Division is taking this action in the interest of your continued satisfaction with our products.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
