OIL LEAK AT THE ROCKER COVER

SUBJECT: OIL LEAK AT THE ROCKER COVER (REPLACE BOTH COMPOSITE COVERS WITH NEW ALUMINUM COVER)

MODELS: 1994-95 BUICK CENTURY, REGAL AND SKYLARK 1994-95 CHEVROLET BERETTA AND CORSICA 1995 CHEVROLET LUMINA AND MONTE CARLO 1994-95 OLDSMOBILE ACHIEVA, CIERA AND CUTLASS SUPREME 1993 OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS SUPREME 1994-95 PONTIAC GRAND AM AND GRAND PRIX WITH 3100 ENGINE (VIN M - RPO L82)

CONDITION:

SOME VEHICLES WITH COMPOSITE ROCKER COVERS MAY EXPERIENCE AN ENGINE OIL LEAK AT EITHER THE LEFT OR RIGHT ROCKER COVER.

CORRECTION:

SEVERAL CONDITIONS MAY CONTRIBUTE TO COMPONENT INTERACTIONS. TO REDUCE SYSTEM SENSITIVITY, A NEW ROCKER COVER HAS BEEN DESIGNED TO ADDRESS A VARIETY OF POTENTIAL CAUSES SIMULTANEOUSLY. THE ORIGINAL ROCKER COVER WAS PRODUCED FROM A COMPOSITE MATERIAL; THE NEW COVER WILL BE ALUMINUM. IN THE INTEREST OF CUSTOMER SATISFACTION AND THE DESIRE TO MAINTAIN A UNIFORM UNDERHOOD APPEARANCE, THE ALUMINUM ROCKER COVERS SHOULD BE INSTALLED IN PAIRS. THE COMPOSITE ROCKER WILL NO LONGER BE AVAILABLE FROM GMSPO. BEFORE ANY REPAIR IS MADE, FOLLOW NORMAL DIAGNOSTICS AS OUTLINED IN THE APPROPRIATE VEHICLE SERVICE MANUAL, SECTION 6A. IF THE OIL LEAK IS DETERMINED TO BE FROM THE COMPOSITE ROCKER COVER, FOLLOW THE SERVICE REPAIR PROCEDURE AS OUTLINED IN SECTION 6A5 OF THE SERVICE MANUAL. REMEMBER TO CHECK FOR OIL LEAKS AFTER THE REPAIR IS MADE.
