GRILL DISTORTION AND FIT REPAIR PROCEDURE

SOME EARLY 1982 SKYLARKS MAY HAVE BEEN BUILT WITH THE RADIATOR GRILLE CENTRE BRACKET ADJUSTED TO THE FULL REARWARD POSITION. THIS RESULTS IN THE CENTRE LOWER PORTION BEING PULLED BACK TOO FAR CAUSING A MISALIGNMENT BETWEEN THE TOP EDGE OF THE BUMPER AND A DISTORTION OF THE LOWER PORTION OF THE GRILLE. TO CORRECT THIS, REMOVE THE SIX (6) TORX SCREWS AND GRILLE ASSEMBLY. THE RADIATOR GRILLE CENTRE BRACKET MAY BE ADJUSTED BY LOOSENING THE LOWER BOLT, BOLT "A" (SEE ILLUSTRATION). THE BOLT HOLE IS SLOTTED. SUBJECT: FRONT GRILLE DISTORTION - 1982 FIRENZA VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1982 OLDSMOBILE 'J' STYLES 1982 FIRENZA MODEL CARS MAY EXHIBIT A WAVY FRONT GRILLE. THE WAVE WILL APPEAR AT THE BOTTOM OF THE GRILLE AND IS DUE TO A LACK OF SUPPORT IN THIS AREA. THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE MAY BE USED TO STRAIGHTEN THE WAVY GRILLE. 1.REMOVE (8) GRILLE ATTACHING SCREWS AND LAY GRILLE UPSIDE DOWN ON A FLAT SURFACE. 2.OBTAIN A 483 MM (19 INCH) LENGTH OF A RIGID NON-CORROSIVE ROD 3.2 MM 1/8 INCH IN DIAMETER SUCH AS A BRASS OR ALUMINUM WELDING ROD, FIBERGLASS, ETC. EPOXY THIS ROD TO THE BACK LOWER EDGE OF THE GRILLE. A.IT MAY BE NECESSARY TO ROUGH UP THE SURFACE OF THE GRILLE TO REMOVE ANY LOOSE SILVER PAINT AND TO ASSURE ADHESION OF THE EPOXY. 3.ALLOW EPOXY TO DRY, TRIM OFF ANY EXCESS EPOXY AND REINSTALL GRILLE.
