REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY (RKE) OPERATING CHARACTERISTICS

REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY (RKE) OPERATING CHARACTERISTICS

MODELS AFFECTED: 1989 RIVIERAS AND REATTAS ----------------

Some 1989 Rivieras and Reattas equipped with Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) may not operate beneath garage door opener receiver. The RKE system operates using a transmitter that communicates with a receiver located beneath the package shelf. The RKE receiver may be receiving signals from the garage door opener receiver of great enough strength to "jam" it, making it unable to receive signals from the RKE transmitter. To verify this condition, unplug the garage door opener receiver and check RKE operation. If the RKE system still does not operate, pursue diagnosis in Section 9K of the Service Information Manual. If the RKE system works properly with the garage door opener receiver unplugged, the system is operating properly and no attempt should be made to correct this condition.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
