WINDSHIELD WASHER STREAKING OR POOR PERFORMANCE

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1988 E/K

Some 1988 E/K Cars may experience streaking or poor performance from the "wet-arm" windshield washer system. This may be caused by the volume of windshield washer solvent delivered to the wet-arm wiper blades. During operation of the washer system, solvent is delivered only on the up-sweep of the wiper blades. To repair this condition, a new washer control module (P/N 22087513), delivers solvent on both the up and down sweep of the wiper blade. Graphite wiper blade inserts will also be available to improve wiper performance, P/N 12337035.

The washer control module is contained within the windshield wiper motor cover and cannot be replaced independently. To replace the wiper motor cover:

1. Disconnect the electrical connector.

2. Remove cover screws

3. Remove the wiper cover.

To install the wiper motor cover assembly:

NOTE: Always install cover assembly with the wiper in the park position and drive pin in the open area of the cam.

1. Install wiper cover in position.

2. Install wiper cover screws.

3. Reconnect electrical connector.

For warranty purposes use Labour Operation N3750 at .3 hour.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
