SLOW HEATER WARM-UP IN COLD WEATHER- NEW THERMOSTAT

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1986 All With 3.OL or 3.8L V-6 Engine (Codes 3, L, B)

A 195 DEG F thermostat with low bleed rate has been released to improve heater performance during engine warm up. If a comment of slow heater warm up in cold weather is received, install thermostat, part number 3059081. Refill engine cooling system with proper coolant and ensure that all trapped air is expelled. Refer to Service Bulletin 85-1-116 for proper coolant fill procedure.

The low bleed rate thermostat may increase coolant temperature gauge fluctuation slightly on vehicles with gauge.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
