SUNROOF DRIVE CABLE AND CONDUIT - REPLACEMENT

THIS BULLETIN REVISES THE PROCEDURE DESCRIBED IN THE 1983 FISHER BODY SERVICE MANUAL (PAGES 8-43 AND 8-46) FOR REMOVING AND REPLACING SUNROOF DRIVE CABLES AND CONDUIT ON 1983 (ALSO 1979-82) VEHICLES. THE TOTAL LABOR TIME REMAINS AT 1.6 HOURS.

THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE SHOULD BE USED WHEN REPLACING SUNROOF DRIVE CABLES OR CONDUIT.

PROCEDURE:

REMOVAL

1. REMOVE THE PLASTIC FINISHING COVER AROUND THE GLASS.

2. REMOVE FOUR (4) FRONT AND FOUR (4) REAR SLIDING PANEL SUPPORT ATTACHING NUTS AND SLIDE THE PANEL REARWARD INTO THE MODULE.

3. REMOVE THE FINISHING LACE, RETAINER AND HEADLINER MATERIAL ACROSS THE FRONT OF THE SUNROOF OPENING.

4. REMOVE THE BLACK RUBBER FILLER LOCATED AT THE FRONT OF THE OPENING BETWEEN THE SUNROOF HOUSING AND THE ROOF.

5. REMOVE THE MAP LAMP ASSEMBLY IF PRESENT.

6. LOOSEN THE SUNROOF DRIVE MOTOR.

7. REMOVE THE CENTER GUIDE.

8. REMOVE THE TWO (2) UPPER AND TWO (2) LOWER CONDUIT ATTACHING NUTS AND THE TWO (2) FRONT GUIDE ATTACHING NUTS.

9. USING A TORX DRIVER, REMOVE THE RIGHT AND LEFT GUIDE STOPS.

10. RAISE THE CONDUIT ASSEMBLY TO CLEAR THE TWO (2) OUTBOARD ATTACHING STUDS.

11. REMOVE THE LOOSE ENDS OF EACH CABLE OUT OF THE LEFT AND RIGHT CONDUIT.

12. REMOVE THE RIGHT AND LEFT SIDE CONDUITS.

13. REMOVE THE RIGHT AND LEFT DRIVE CABLES.

INSTALLATION:

1. INSTALL THE LEFT AND RIGHT DRIVE CABLES INTO THE CONDUITS.

2. INSTALL THE LEFT AND RIGHT CABLES AND CONDUITS INTO THE GUIDE ASSEMBLY.

3. SECURE THE RIGHT AND LEFT CONDUIT TO THE MODULE WITH FOUR (4) ATTACHING SCREWS.

4. LOAD THE RIGHT-HAND CABLE INTO THE LEFT CONDUIT AND THE LEFT-HAND CABLE INTO THE RIGHT CONDUIT.

5. INSTALL THE TWO (2) OUTBOARD CENTER GUIDE ATTACHING SCREWS.

6. MANUALLY SLIDE THE SUNROOF PANEL FORWARD AND INSTALL THE FOUR (4) REAR SUPPORT ATTACHING NUTS.

7. INSTALL THE LEFT AND RIGHT FRONT GUIDE SUPPORTS INTO THE GUIDE ASSEMBLIES AND ATTACH THEM TO THE SLIDING PANEL WITH FOUR (4) ATTACHING NUTS.

8. INSTALL THE DRIVE MOTOR.

9. INSTALL THE MAP LAMP.

10. MOVE THE SUNROOF SLIDING PANEL INTO THE FULL FORWARD POSITION.

11. CHECK THE ALIGNMENT OF THE SLIDING PANEL IN THE ROOF OPENING AND ADJUST AS NECESSARY.

12. INSTALL THE FINISHING RETAINER, LACE AND HEADLINER MATERIAL.

13. INSTALL THE PLASTIC FINISHING COVER AROUND THE GLASS.
