For 1990-2009 cars only
Removal Procedure
- Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
- Remove the coolant reservoir. Refer to Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement in Engine Cooling.
- Remove the left front sheet metal diagonal brace. Refer to Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement - Left Side in Body Front End.
- Remove the air inlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement .
- Remove the air cleaner upper cover bolts and the upper cover.
- Disconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor electrical connector.
- Remove and reposition the TCM with the wiring harness in order to gain access.
- Remove the air cleaner bolts and the air cleaner with the mass air flow sensor.
Important: Do not disconnect the transmission control module (TCM) electrical connector.
Installation Procedure
- Install the air cleaner with the mass air flow sensor.
- Install the air cleaner bolts.
- Install the TCM with the wiring harness to the air cleaner.
- Connect the MAF sensor electrical connector.
- Install the air cleaner upper cover and the upper cover bolts.
- Install the air inlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement .
- Install the left front sheet metal diagonal brace. Refer to Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement - Left Side in Body Front End.
- Install the coolant reservoir. Refer to Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement in Engine Cooling.
- Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
Tighten
Tighten the air cleaner bolts to 10 N·m
(89 lb in).
Tighten
Tighten the air cleaner upper cover bolts to 2.3 N·m
(20 lb in).
