Power Steering Cooler Pipe/Hose Replacement LY7

Removal Procedure

  1. Use a suitable tool to remove the power steering fluid from the reservoir.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  3. Reomve the right front tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  4. Remove the engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement .
  5. Remove the power steering gear heat shield. Refer to Steering Gear Heat Shield Replacement .
  6. Remove the cooler pipe low pressure line nut (1) from the power steering gear.

  7. Object Number: 1644566  Size: SH
  8. Disconnect the low pressure hose from the cooler pipe (2).
  9. Disconnect the wiring harness from the cooler bracket studs.
  10. Remove the cooler pipe bracket retaining bolts (3).
  11. Remove the cooler pipe (4).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1644566  Size: SH
  1. Install the cooler pipe (4) to the vehicle.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the cooler pipe bracket bolts (3).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  5. Connect the cooler pipe low pressure line nut (1) to the power steering gear.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  7. Connect the wiring harness to the cooler bracket studs.
  8. Connect the low pressure hose to the cooler pipe at (2).
  9. Install the power steering gear heat shield. Refer to Steering Gear Heat Shield Replacement .
  10. Install the engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement .
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12. Fill the power steering reservoir with power steering fluid. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  13. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  14. Inspect the system for leaks. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Leaks .

Removal Procedure

  1. Use a suitable tool to remove the power steering fluid from the reservoir.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  3. Remove the right front tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  4. Remove the engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement .
  5. Remove the power steering gear heat shield. Refer to Steering Gear Heat Shield Replacement .
  6. Remove the cooler pipe low pressure line nut (1) from the power steering gear.

  8. Disconnect the low pressure hose from the cooler pipe (3).
  9. Disconnect the wiring harness from the cooler bracket studs.
  10. Remove the cooler pipe bracket retaining bolts (2).
  11. Remove the cooler pipe (4) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1644564  Size: SH
  1. Install the cooler pipe (4) to the vehicle.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the cooler pipe bracket bolts (2).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  5. Connect the cooler pipe low pressure line nut (1) to the power steering gear.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  7. Connect the wiring harness to the cooler bracket studs.
  8. Connect the low pressure hose to the cooler pipe at (3).
  9. Install the power steering gear heat shield. Refer to Steering Gear Heat Shield Replacement .
  10. Install the engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement .
  11. Install the right front tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  12. Lower the vehicle.
  13. Fill the power steering reservoir with power steering fluid. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  14. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  15. Inspect the system for leaks. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Leaks .
