Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement LA1

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.4L.

  2. Object Number: 417974  Size: SH
  3. Disconnect the pressure hose from the power steering pump.
  4. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  5. Remove the right side engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement in Body Front End.
  6. Remove the power steering gear heat shield. Refer to Steering Gear Heat Shield Replacement .
  7. Place the drain pan under the power steering pump and the power steering gear.

  8. Object Number: 628988  Size: SH
  9. For front wheel drive vehicles, remove the pipe retainer.
  10. For all wheel drive vehicles, disconnect the wiring harness from the pipe rear clip stud.

  11. Object Number: 628990  Size: SH
  12. For all wheel drive vehicles, remove the pipe rear clip stud.
  13. Disconnect the pressure hose from the steering gear.
  14. Disconnect the pressure hose from the hose retainer.
  15. Position the pressure hose lower portion into the right wheel opening.
  16. Lower the vehicle.
  17. Remove the pressure hose from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the pressure hose into place.

  2. Object Number: 417974  Size: SH
  3. Connect the pressure hose into the retaining bracket.
  4. Install the pressure hose to the steering gear.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the pressure hose filling to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  6. Install the retainer stud to the pipe rear clip, if applicable.
  7. Connect the wiring harness to the rear clip stud.

  8. Object Number: 628988  Size: SH
  9. With front wheel drive vehicles, install the pipe retainer.
  10. Install the right side splash panel.
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  13. Install the pressure hose to the pump.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the pressure hose fitting to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  15. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.4L.
  16. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
