Crankshaft Position Sensor Replacement 7X CKP Sensor

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 15969  Size: SH
  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Access the crankshaft position sensor.
  4. • For front-wheel drive vehicles, remove the right front tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tire and Wheel.
    • For all-wheel-drive vehicles, disconnect the catalytic converter from the exhaust manifold and reposition.
  5. Disconnect the sensor electrical connector.
  6. Remove the attaching bolt and/or screw.
  7. Remove the sensor from the engine.
  8. Inspect for wear, cracks, or leakage if the sensor is not being replaced.

Installation Procedure

  1. Replace the O-ring, if it is damaged. Lubricate the O-ring with clean engine.

  2. Object Number: 15969  Size: SH
  3. Install the sensor to the block.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the sensor attaching bolt.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 11 N·m (97 lb in).

  7. Install the sensor electrical connector.
  8. Install components that were removed.
  9. • For front-wheel-drive vehicles, install the right tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tire and Wheel.
    • For all-wheel-drive vehicles, install the catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Perform the CKP System Variation Learn Procedure. Refer to Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn .

Crankshaft Position Sensor Replacement 24X CKP Sensor

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 14714  Size: SH
  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Raise the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information
  3. Remove the crankshaft harmonic balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  4. Note the routing of the sensor harness before removal.
  5. Remove the harness retaining clip (3) with the bolt (4).
  6. Disconnect the sensor electrical connector.
  7. Remove the sensor bolts (4).
  8. Remove the sensor (1).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the 24X crankshaft position sensor (1) with bolts (4) and the route harness as noted during removal.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the harness retaining clip (3) with the bolt (4).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  5. Connect the sensor electrical connector.
  6. Install the balancer on the crankshaft. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  7. Lower vehicle.
  8. Perform the CKP System Variation Learn Procedure. Refer to Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn .
