Battery Positive Cable Replacement LA1

Removal Procedure

When replacing battery cables, be sure to use replacement cables that are the same type, gauge and length.

  1. Remove the battery ground (negative) cable from the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

  2. Object Number: 1236359  Size: SH
  3. Remove the battery positive cable from the battery.

  4. Object Number: 1236357  Size: SH
  5. Remove the battery positive cable nut and cable from the underhood electrical center.
  6. Remove the battery positive cable nut and cable from the generator.
  7. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  8. Remove the lower radiator baffle. Refer to Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors in Engine Cooling.
  9. Remove the battery cable conduit from the conduit retainers.

  11. Remove the starter motor BAT terminal nut from the starter motor.
  12. Remove the battery positive cable from the starter motor BAT terminal.
  13. Lower the vehicle.
  14. Remove the battery positive cable from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the battery positive cable to the vehicle.
  2. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  3. Object Number: 368798  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the battery positive cable and nut to the starter motor BAT terminal.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  6. Install the battery positive cable to the conduit.
  7. Install the battery cable conduit to the conduit retainers.
  8. Install the lower radiator baffle. Refer to Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors in Engine Cooling.
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10. Connect the battery positive cable to the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement .

  11. Object Number: 1236357  Size: SH
  12. Install the battery positive cable and nut to the underhood electrical center.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).


    Object Number: 1236359  Size: SH
  14. Install the battery positive cable and bolt to the battery.
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  16. Install the battery ground (negative) cable to the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
