Discharge Hose Replacement LA1

Tools Required

J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.4L.
  2. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .

  4. Remove the discharge hose to condenser nut.
  5. Disconnect the discharge hose from the condenser.
  6. Important: Cap or tape the open A/C components immediately to prevent A/C system contamination.

  7. Cap or tape the discharge port on the condenser.

  9. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  10. Remove the air baffle bolts.
  11. Remove the air baffle.

  13. Remove the discharge hose to compressor nut.
  14. Disconnect the discharge hose from the compressor.
  15. Cap or tape the compressor discharge port.
  16. Remove the discharge hose.
  17. Remove and discard the sealing washers.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install a new sealing washer onto the compressor side of the discharge hose. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement .
  2. Install the discharge hose.
  3. Remove the cap or tape from the compressor discharge port.

  4. Object Number: 791143  Size: SH
  5. Connect the discharge hose to the compressor.
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the discharge hose to compressor nut.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  9. Install the air baffle.
  10. Install the air baffle bolts.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  12. Lower the vehicle.
  13. Install a new seal washer to the condenser side of the discharge hose. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement .
  14. Remove cap or tape from the discharge port on the condenser.

  15. Object Number: 628885  Size: SH
  16. Connect the discharge hose to the condenser.
  17. Install the discharge hose to condenser nut.
  18. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  19. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  20. Leak test the fittings of the component using J 39400-A .
  21. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.4L.

Discharge Hose Replacement LY7

Tools Required

J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.6L.
  2. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .

  3. Object Number: 628885  Size: SH
  4. Remove the nut that secures the discharge hose to the condenser.
  5. Disconnect the discharge hose from the condenser.
  6. Important: Cap or tape the open A/C components immediately to prevent A/C system contamination.

  7. Cap or tape the discharge port on the condenser.

  8. Object Number: 791143  Size: SH
  9. Remove the nut that secures the discharge hose to the compressor.
  10. Disconnect the discharge hose from the compressor.
  11. Cap or tape the compressor discharge port.
  12. Remove the discharge hose.
  13. Remove and discard the sealing washers.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install a new sealing washer onto the compressor side of the discharge hose. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement .
  2. Install the discharge hose.
  3. Remove the cap or tape from the compressor discharge port.

  4. Object Number: 791143  Size: SH
  5. Connect the discharge hose to the compressor.
  6. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  7. Install the nut to secure the discharge hose to the compressor.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  9. Install a new seal washer to the condenser side of the discharge hose. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement .
  10. Remove cap or tape from the discharge port on the condenser.

  11. Object Number: 628885  Size: SH
  12. Connect the discharge hose to the condenser.
  13. Install the nut to secure the discharge hose to the condenser.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  15. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  16. Use J 39400-A to leak test the fittings of the component .
  17. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.6L.
