Did you perform the Door Systems Diagnostic System Check?

Verify that the door/trunk ajar indicator malfunction fault is present.

Does the door/trunk ajar indicator operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Is the door/trunk ajar indicator on all the time?

Go to Step 4

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Close all of the doors and the trunk.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the door jamb switch and trunk ajar switch parameters in the Body Control Module data list.

Does the scan tool display Open or On for either of the parameters?

Go to Step 5

Was the active input parameter the door jamb switch parameter?

Go to Step 6

  1. With a scan tool, observe the door jamb switch parameter in the Body Control Module data list.
  2. Disconnect each of the door lock C1 harness connectors, one at a time.

Does the scan tool display change to Closed when any of the door lock C1 harness connectors are disconnected?

Go to Step 19

  1. With a scan tool, observe the trunk ajar switch parameter in the Body Control Module data list.
  2. Disconnect the trunk ajar switch assembly harness connector.

Does the scan tool display change to Off?

Go to Step 20

Is the door/trunk ajar indicator inoperative from any door?

Go to Step 9

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the appropriate door lock C1 harness connector.
  3. Connect a 3 amp fused jumper wire between the secondary door latch switch signal circuit of the appropriate door lock C1 harness connector and a good ground.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Does the door/trunk ajar indicator illuminate?

Go to Step 14

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the trunk ajar switch assembly harness connector.
  3. Connect a 3 amp fused jumper wire between the trunk lamp control circuit of the trunk ajar switch assembly harness connector and a good ground.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Does the door/trunk ajar indicator illuminate?

Go to Step 16

With a scan tool, observe the door ajar lamp parameter in the Instrument Panel Cluster data list.

Does the scan tool display On?

Go to Step 21

Test the secondary door latch switch signal circuit of the appropriate door lock C1 harness connector for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 27

Test the trunk lamp control circuit of the trunk ajar switch assembly harness connector for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the ground circuit of the appropriate door lock C1 harness connector for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the secondary door latch switch signal circuit of the appropriate door lock C1 harness connector for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the ground circuit of the trunk ajar switch assembly harness connector for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the trunk lamp control circuit of the trunk ajar switch assembly harness connector for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Open all of the doors and the trunk.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the door ajar lamp parameter in the Instrument Panel Cluster data list.

Does the scan tool display On?

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the appropriate door lock. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the trunk ajar switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the body control module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
