Power Steering Return Hose Replacement 3.1L

Removal Procedure

  1. Place a drain pan under the vehicle in order to catch any draining power steering fluid.
  2. Remove the coolant reservoir. Refer to Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement in Engine Cooling.

  3. Object Number: 454268  Size: SH
  4. Remove the return hose from the power steering pump.
  5. Remove the return hose from the retaining bracket on the engine.
  6. Remove the return hose from the cooler pipe/hose.
  7. Remove the return hose from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the power steering return hose to the cooler pipe/hose.

  2. Object Number: 454268  Size: SH
  3. Install the return hose to the retaining bracket on the engine.
  4. Install the return hose to the power steering pump.
  5. Install the coolant reservoir. Refer to Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  6. Fill the power steering system. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  7. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  8. Inspect the power steering system for leaks. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Leaks .
  9. Remove the drain pan from under the vehicle.

Power Steering Return Hose Replacement L26

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  3. Place a drain pan under the vehicle in order to catch any draining power steering fluid.
  4. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .

  5. Object Number: 284303  Size: SH
  6. Remove the power steering return hose from the power steering gear.

  7. Object Number: 294335  Size: SH
  8. Remove the return hose from the power steering pump.
  9. Remove the return hose from the hose retainer.
  10. Remove the return hose from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 294335  Size: SH
  1. Install the return hose to the hose retainer.
  2. Install the return hose to the power steering pump.
  3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 284303  Size: SH
  4. Install the return hose to the power steering gear.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  6. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  7. Remove the drain pan from under the vehicle.
  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  10. Fill the power steering fluid reservoir. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  11. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  12. Inspect the power steering system for leaks. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Leaks .
