Some vehicles may be unable to connect to OnStar® following a dropped cellular call during an OnStar® configuration attempt.

Important: If the vehicle is able to connect to OnStar®, or at any point during the attempt to contact OnStar® you receive a message other than "unable to contact OnStar®," this bulletin does not apply.

A dropped cellular call during a configuration attempt may prevent the vehicle module from sending or receiving cellular calls. You will have to reset the OnStar® Vehicle Communications and Interface Module to the Preferred System Setting in order to configure the vehicle.

OnStar® Reset Procedure

  1. Verify that the vehicle is capable of making a cellular call by pressing the blue OnStar® button.
  2. You will hear the call progression tones for approximately two minutes followed by the message "unable to contact OnStar®."
  3. If you hear any messages other than, or in addition to, "unable to contact OnStar®" or the call connects to the OnStar® Call Center anytime during the attempt, this bulletin will not apply. Refer to currently published Service Information in order to diagnose the vehicle.

  4. Connect the Tech 2 tool to the vehicle.
  5. Tech 2 software, version 21.006 or later, will be required to perform this reset. The Tech 2 software is currently available on the TIS 2000 version TIS 08/2001 data update or later.

  6. Select diagnostics.
  7. Select model year 2002.
  8. Choose vehicle type.
  9. Select body type.
  10. Select the appropriate model.
  11. Choose the appropriate vehicle options.
  12. Choose OnStar® module.
  13. Select special functions.
  14. Choose the preferred system setting.
  15. Highlight option "B," then "A" (if not already highlighted).
  16. Press Enter to put an asterisk next to the option (if the asterisk isn't already present).
  17. Press the Save key soft key.
  18. Disconnect the Tech 2.
  19. Move the vehicle outdoors. Contact the OnStar® Call Center by pressing the blue OnStar® button and configure the vehicle.
