Notice: Do not use solvent of any type when cleaning the gasket surfaces on the intake manifold and the throttle body assembly, as damage to the gasket surfaces and throttle body assembly may result.

1. Remove the injector sight shield. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement in Engine Mechanical 3.8L.
2. Drain the radiator coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
3. Remove the air intake duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement .



4. Disconnect the idle air control (IAC) valve electrical connector.



5. Disconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor electrical connector.



6. Disconnect the throttle position (TP) sensor electrical connector.



7. Disconnect the accelerator and cruise controls cable (1) . Refer to Accelerator Control Cable Replacement .



8. Remove the accelerator controls cable bracket. Refer to Accelerator Control Cable Bracket Replacement .



9. Disconnect the vacuum line from the throttle body.



10. Remove the nut (2) from the air injection pipe (1) if applicable.



11. Remove the exhaust crossover. Refer to Exhaust Crossover Pipe Replacement in Engine Exhaust.



12. Remove the throttle body support bracket.



13. Remove the fasteners holding the throttle body to the intake manifold.
14. Remove the throttle body assembly.
15. Clean the gasket surface on the intake manifold and the throttle body assembly.

1. Install the new gasket.
2. Install the throttle body assembly.

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

3. Reinstall the throttle body 3 retaining nuts.

Tighten
Tighten the throttle body retaining nuts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).




4. Install the throttle body support bracket and bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the throttle body support bracket bolts to 16 N·m (11.8 lb ft).




5. Install the exhaust crossover. Refer to Exhaust Crossover Pipe Replacement in Engine Exhaust.



6. Install the accelerator controls cable bracket. Refer to Accelerator Control Cable Bracket Replacement .
7. Reinstall the air injection pipe to the throttle body if applicable.

Tighten
Tighten the nut to 11 N·m (97 lb in).




8. Connect the vacuum line to throttle body.



9. Connect the IAC valve electrical connector.



10. Connect the MAF sensor electrical connector.
11. Connect the IAT electrical connector.



12. Connect the TP sensor electrical connector.
13. Install the air intake duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement .
14. Refill the radiator to replace the lost coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.



15. Install the injector sight shield. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
