FRONT DOORS STICK WHEN OPENING (INST. SQUEAK REDUCTION TAPE)

SUBJECT: FRONT DOORS STICK WHEN OPENING (INSTALL SQUEAK REDUCTION TAPE)

MODELS: 1990-94 BUICK REGAL SEDAN 1990-94 OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS SUPREME SEDAN 1990-94 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX SEDAN

CONDITION:

SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT THAT THE FRONT DOORS STICK WHEN THEY INITIALLY START TO OPEN THEM. THIS CONDITION MAY HAPPEN ON EITHER FRONT DOOR.

CAUSE:

AUXILIARY WEATHERSTRIP STICKS TO THE HEM FLANGE ALONG TOP EDGE OF THE DOOR.

CORRECTION:

INSTALL 3M SQUEAK REDUCTION TAPE*, P/N 06356. THIS TAPE MAY BE PURCHASED LOCALLY FROM BODY SHOP SUPPLY STORES.

NOTE: BEFORE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE BELOW, ALWAYS MAKE SURE THE DOOR STRIKER IS ADJUSTED PROPERLY.

PROCEDURE:

1. OPEN BOTH FRONT DOORS AND CLEAN SURFACE AREA WITH A SILICONE, GREASE AND WAX REMOVER.

2. TEMPERATURE OF PANEL AND WORK AREA SHOULD BE BETWEEN 20 AND 30 DEGREES CELSIUS (70 TO 90 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT).

3. REMOVE TAPE FROM BOX, CUT DESIRED AMOUNT NEEDED. MARK THE CENTER OF THE TAPE AND CUT IT LENGTHWISE IN HALF MAKING TWO 1/2" WIDE STRIPS.

4. REMOVE PROTECTIVE BACKING AND INSTALL THE TAPE TO THE UPPER DOOR FRAME (SEE FIGURE 1, ITEM 1). MAKE SURE THE TAPE OVERLAPS THE HEM FLANGE (SEE FIGURE 1, ITEM 2). DURING INSTALLATION, PRESS THE TAPE FIRMLY INTO PLACE, WORKING OUT ANY AIR POCKETS.
