LUG WRENCH SOCKET/JACK HANDLE NEW REPLACEMENT PART P/N

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1988 THROUGH EARLY 1990 W-CARS

CONDITION:

New replacement parts for lug wrench socket and jack handle.

CORRECTION:

Replace the old lug wrench socket and ratchet handle with new parts. The new part is mounted under the spare tire cover and will require a modification to the tire cover as well as a new label for the cover.

PARTS REQUIRED:

Kit #12506758, which contains the following parts:

1 - 10158395 Handle Assembly 1 - 10165650 Bolt/screw, Jack Handle 1 - 10165652 Nut, Jack Handle 1 - 10165653 Label, Jack Usage

PROCEDURE:

1. Open rear compartment lid, remove floor covering and the large retaining plate for the spare tire cover.

2. Determine the approximate centerline of large hole on the spare tire cover, draw a line parallel to centerline of vehicle from the hole to the forward edge of the spare tire cover.

3. Mark a location on the centerline 150.Omm (5 7/8") forward of the large retainer plate hole in the spare tire cover (See Illustration).

4. Remove the cover from the vehicle, locate and mark a spot 35mm (1-3/8") to the right of the previous mark at 150mm (See Illustration).

5. Using a 20mm (3/4)" hole saw, drill a hole at the mark to the right of the centerline.

6. Using a sharp utility knife, cut a 9mm (11/32") by 10mm (13/32") long slot toward the centerline of vehicle and install the new jack handle retaining bolt, P/N 10165650 in the hole.

7. Lay the tire cover face down on a clean work surface, and position the new jack handle, P/N 10158395 on the retaining bolt.

8. Cut two 25mm (1") pieces of the edge insulating material from the cover. Locate under each end of the handle (to act as anti-rattle pads), and glue into place using trim adhesive.

9. While the adhesive is drying, remove the, spare tire, remove and discard the old ratchet handle, socket and retaining clip and bolts.

10. Reinstall the spare tire in the rear compartment.

11. Install and tighten the nut, P/N 10165652 to retain the jack handle to the spare tire cover.

12. Reinstall the tire cover in the rear compartment. Locate and install the new jacking label, P/N 10165653 directly on top of the old one.

13. Reinstall and position the rear compartment floor covering.
