Rear Seat Back Cushion Cover and Pad Replacement TrailBlazer EXT, Envoy XL, Envoy XUV

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the head restraint. Refer to Rear Seat Head Restraint Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 753729  Size: SH
  3. Press in the buttons (1) on the plastic retainers.
  4. Remove the seat belt bezel from the top of the seat back by removing the plastic retainers and sliding the bezel off of the seat belt.

  5. Object Number: 828140  Size: SH
  6. Remove the 3 screws securing the inboard rear seat back hinge cover.

  7. Object Number: 828141  Size: SH
  8. Remove the rear seat belt anchor nut (2).

  9. Object Number: 893517  Size: SH
  10. Unhook the J-strips (3) from the bottom of the seat back cover (1).
  11. Remove the 2 push pins (2) from each side of the seat back.
  12. Pull the seat cover forward through the opening between the seat cushion and the seat back.

  14. Release the hook and loop fasteners (2, 3) securing the cover to the pad.
  15. Remove the 3 hog rings (1) securing the cover to the pad.

  17. Remove the head restraint guides by squeezing the retaining tabs (1) located at the bottom of the guides together.
  18. Remove the seat back cover and pad. The pad may be glued to the frame in places from the initial set assembly process.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the seat back cover and pad on the seat back frame.

  2. Object Number: 752739  Size: SH
  3. Install the head restraint guides by pushing them through the cover into the frame until the locking tabs snap into place. The guide with the locking tab (1) installs on the right hand side of the seat.

  4. Object Number: 828143  Size: SH
  5. Install the 3 hog rings (1) securing the cover to the pad.
  6. Pull the cover down over the pad ensuring that the hook and loop fasteners (2, 3) are pressed together.
  7. Pull the seat cover back through the opening between the seat cushion and the seat back.

  8. Object Number: 893517  Size: SH
  9. Install the cover side flaps to the frame with the 2 push pins (2) from each side of the seat back.
  10. Install the J-strips (3) on the bottom of the seat back cover (1).
  11. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 828141  Size: SH
  12. Install the rear seat belt (1) to the seat with the rear seat belt anchor nut (2).
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the rear seat belt anchor nut to 55 N·m (41 lb ft).

  14. Install the inboard rear seat back hinge cover with 3 screws.
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the rear seat back hinge cover screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  16. Install the seat belt bezel to the rear seat back with the plastic retainers (2).
  17. Install the head restraint assembly. Refer to Rear Seat Head Restraint Replacement .

Rear Seat Back Cushion Cover and Pad Replacement TrailBlazer, Envoy, Rainier

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the seat back from the vehicle. Refer to Rear Seat Number 1 Back Replacement .
  2. Remove the seat belt buckle bracket, on the right side only.

  3. Object Number: 753723  Size: SH
  4. Remove the seat belt anchor bolt from the bracket.

  5. Object Number: 753729  Size: SH
  6. Release the seat belt bezel from the seat back by pressing in the buttons (1) on the plastic retainers.
  7. Remove the seat belt bezel by sliding it off the seat belt.
  8. Remove the head restraints. Refer to Rear Seat Head Restraint Replacement .

  9. Object Number: 753555  Size: SH
  10. Remove the release latch knob.

  11. Object Number: 753553  Size: SH
  12. Remove the screw that retains the seat back latch release bezel to the seat back.

  13. Object Number: 753560  Size: SH
  14. Release the J-strips on the bottom of the seat back frame.
  15. Release the hook and loop retaining strips at the bottom of the seat back.
  16. Remove 3 push-pins from the bottom of the seat back.

  17. Object Number: 753548  Size: SH

    Important: Ensure that the hook and loop retaining strips remain attached to the seat back pad.

  18. Release the cover from the hook and loop retaining strips on the front of the seat back pad.

  20. Remove the 6 push-pins from the seat back.
  21. Remove the cover and pad from the seat back.

  23. Release the 3 hog-rings from the reinforcement bar.
  24. Remove the seat cover from the pad.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the seat back pad to the seat back frame.

  2. Object Number: 753549  Size: SH
  3. Install the 6 push-pins that retain the seat back pad to the seat back frame.
  4. Partially install the seat cover.

  5. Object Number: 753704  Size: SH
  6. Install the 3 hog-rings to the reinforcement bar.
  7. Install the seat cover the remainder of the way.

  8. Object Number: 753548  Size: SH
  9. Engage the seat cover to the hook and loop retaining strips on the seat back pad.
  10. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 753553  Size: SH
  11. Install the screw that retains the rear seat back release latch bezel to the rear seat back.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the rear seat back release latch bezel screw to 3 N·m (26 lb in).


    Object Number: 753560  Size: SH
  13. Install the 3 push-pins at the bottom of the rear seat back.
  14. Engage the hook and loop retaining strips at the bottom of the rear seat back.
  15. Starting at either corner, engage the J-strips at the bottom of the rear seat back.
  16. Install the head restraints. Refer to Rear Seat Head Restraint Replacement .

  17. Object Number: 753728  Size: SH
  18. Install the seat belt bezel to the rear seat back with the plastic retainers (2).

  19. Object Number: 753723  Size: SH
  20. Install the rear seat belt anchor bolt into the seat belt buckle bracket.
  21. Tighten
    Tighten the rear seat belt anchor bolt to 55 N·m (41 lb ft).

  22. Install the seat belt buckle bracket, on the right side only.
  23. Install the seat back into the vehicle. Refer to Rear Seat Number 1 Back Replacement .
