Radiator Replacement LL8

Tools Required

J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers

Removal Procedure

  1. Drain the coolant from the radiator. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  2. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  3. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  4. Remove the lower radiator support shield, if equipped. Refer to Radiator Support Shield Replacement .

  6. Reposition the outlet radiator hose clamp using J 38185 from the lower radiator hose (1).
  7. Remove the outlet radiator hose from the radiator.

  8. Object Number: 753673  Size: SH
  9. Reposition the inlet radiator hose clamps (1) and remove hose (2).
  10. Remove the transmission cooler lines from the radiator. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection .
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12. Remove the cooling fan and shroud. Refer to Cooling Fan and Shroud Replacement .
  13. Remove the radiator support diagonal brace. Refer to Radiator Support Diagonal Brace Replacement .
  14. Remove the coolant recovery line from the radiator.

  16. Disconnect the radiator side panels from the shroud (1).
  17. Remove the radiator.
  18. Remove the bolts retaining the condenser to the radiator.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the condenser to the radiator.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the bolts retaining the condenser to the radiator.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  5. Install the radiator.
  6. Install the cooling fan and shroud. Refer to Cooling Fan and Shroud Replacement .
  7. Raise the vehicle.

  9. Install the outlet radiator hose (1) to the radiator.

  10. Object Number: 753673  Size: SH
  11. Reposition the outlet radiator hose clamp (1) using J 38185 .
  12. Connect the transmission cooler lines to the radiator. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection .
  13. Install the lower radiator support shield, if equipped. Refer to Radiator Support Shield Replacement .
  14. Lower the vehicle.
  15. Install the coolant recovery hose to the radiator.
  16. Install the radiator support diagonal brace. Refer to Radiator Support Diagonal Brace Replacement .
  17. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .

Radiator Replacement LH6

Tools Required

    • J 41240 Fan Clutch Remover and Installer
    • J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers

Removal Procedure

  1. Drain the coolant from the radiator. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  2. Remove the lower radiator support shield, if equipped. Refer to Radiator Support Shield Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 750179  Size: SH
  4. Remove the transmission cooler lines from the radiator. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection for the 4L60-E/4L65-E transmission.
  5. Reposition the outlet radiator hose clamp using J 38185 .
  6. Remove the outlet radiator hose (1) from the radiator.
  7. Lower the vehicle.

  9. Reposition the inlet radiator hose clamp (1) using J 38185 .
  10. Remove the inlet radiator hose from the radiator.
  11. Remove the cooling fan and shroud. Refer to Cooling Fan and Shroud Replacement .
  12. Remove the headlamp housing panel. Refer to Headlamp Housing Panel Replacement .
  13. Remove the upper radiator to condenser bolts.
  14. Remove the coolant recovery line from the radiator.
  15. Lift upward on the condenser to remove from the radiator retaining tab.
  16. Remove the radiator.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the radiator.
  2. Install the condenser to the radiator retaining tab.
  3. Install the coolant recovery line to the radiator.
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Install the bolts retaining the condenser to the radiator.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  7. Install the headlamp housing panel. Refer to Headlamp Housing Panel Replacement .
  8. Install the cooling fan and shroud. Refer to Cooling Fan and Shroud Replacement .

  10. Install the inlet radiator hose to the radiator.
  11. Reposition the inlet radiator hose clamp (1) using J 38185 .
  12. Raise the vehicle.

  14. Install the outlet radiator hose (1) to the radiator.

  15. Object Number: 753673  Size: SH
  16. Reposition the outlet radiator hose clamp (1) using J 38185 .
  17. Connect the transmission cooler lines to the radiator. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection for the 4L60-E/4L65-E transmission.
  18. Install the lower radiator support shield, if equipped. Refer to Radiator Support Shield Replacement .
  19. Lower the vehicle.
  20. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
