Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 294367  Size: SH
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
  2. Remove the Inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in SIR.
  3. Disconnect the steering wheel electrical connector.
  4. Remove the weight block from the steering wheel base, if equipped.
  5. Remove the steering wheel retaining nut.
  6. Note the mark on the steering shaft and the steering wheel in order to ensure proper alignment during installation.

  7. Object Number: 255213  Size: SH
  8. Install J 42578 and J 1859-A to the steering wheel .
  9. Use J 42578 and J 1859-A to separate the steering wheel from the steering column.
  10. Remove the steering wheel from the steering column.
  11. Remove the J 42578 and J 1859-A from the steering wheel.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 294367  Size: SH
  1. Route the wiring through the steering wheel.
  2. Align the mark on the steering wheel with the mark on the shaft.
  3. Install the steering wheel.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the steering wheel retaining nut.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 41 N·m (30 lb ft).

  7. Install the weight block to the steering wheel if equipped.
  8. Connect the steering wheel electrical connector.
  9. Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in SIR.
  10. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
