SMU - SECTION 8E - REVISED PROCEDURE FOR WIPER ARM ASSY.

SUBJECT: SERVICE MANUAL UPDATE - SECTION 8E - REVISED PROCEDURE FOR WIPER ARM ASSEMBLY REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT

MODELS: 1994 BUICK PARK AVENUE AND LESABRE 1994 OLDSMOBILE NINETY EIGHT AND EIGHTY EIGHT 1994 PONTIAC BONNEVILLE

THE WIPER ARM ASSEMBLY CANNOT BE REMOVED AND REPLACED AS SHOWN IN THE SERVICE MANUAL. THE WIPER ARM ASSEMBLY MUST BE RAISED HIGHER THAN NORMAL AND CONTACTS HOOD BEFORE LOCKING TAB CAN BE RELEASED.

USE THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE:

WIPER ARM ASSEMBLY REMOVAL ==========================

1. CLOSE HOOD.

2. TURN IGNITION TO ACCY POSITION.

3. SET WIPER SWITCH TO DELAY POSITION.

4. TURN IGNITION OFF WHEN WIPER IS IN INNERWIPE POSITION.

5. MARK POSITION OF WIPER ARM BLADES ON WINDSHIELD USING TAPE (FIGURE 1).

NOTICE: WIPER ARM ASSEMBLY MUST BE INSTALLED ON SHAFT IN SAME POSITION AS REMOVED TO ENSURE CORRECT WIPER PATTERN AND PARK OPERATION. DO NOT TURN IGNITION SWITCH FROM THE OFF POSITION WHILE WIPER ARM ASSEMBLY IS REMOVED.

6. REMOVE WIPER ARM ASSEMBLY AS SHOWN IN SERVICE MANUAL (SECTION 8E).

WIPER ARM ASSEMBLY INSTALLATION ===============================

1. INSTALL WIPER ARM ASSEMBLY AS SHOWN IN SERVICE MANUAL WHILE KEEPING WIPER BLADES LINED UP WITH TAPE ON WINDSHIELD (FIGURE 1).

2. OPERATE WIPERS AND CHECK FOR CORRECT WIPE PATTERN (FIGURE 1).

3. SET WIPER SWITCH TO OFF POSITION.

4. TURN IGNITION OFF.

5. OPEN HOOD AND CHECK THAT WIPER ARM ASSEMBLY IS SNUG AGAINST WIPER ARM PARK RAMP. CLOSE HOOD.
