Diagnostic Instructions

    • Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
    • Review Strategy Based Diagnosis for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
    •  Diagnostic Procedure Instructions provides an overview of each diagnostic category.

DTC Descriptor

DTC C0292 00: VSES Combination Sensor Circuits

Circuit/System Description

The electronic brake control module (EBCM) supplies a reference voltage of 5 volts to the yaw rate sensor/lateral acceleration sensor and the steering angle sensor. The sensor supply voltage is monitored via an internal feedback circuit to the EBCM microprocessor.

Conditions for Running the DTC

    • Ignition ON.
    • Ignition voltage is greater than 8 volts.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The EBCM detects that the sensor supply voltage is less than 4.75 volts or greater than 5.25 volts for 1 second.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • The EBCM turns OFF the 5-volt reference circuit, until the ignition is cycled.
    • The EBCM disables the traction control system (TCS)/vehicle stability enhancement system (VSES) for the duration of the ignition cycle.
    • A DIC message and/or a warning indicator may be displayed.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • The condition for setting the DTC is no longer present.
    • The EBCM clears the history DTC when a current DTC is not detected in 100 consecutive drive cycles.

Diagnostic Aids

If the yaw and lateral accelerometer sensor is disconnected, DTCs will set and the EBCM will not provide 5-volt reference.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition ON, observe the DTC information with the scan tool.
  2. Verify that none of the following DTCs are set, U0100-U0299. If any of the DTCs are set, refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle.
  3. Ignition OFF, disconnect the yaw rate and lateral acceleration sensor connector.
  4. Ignition OFF for 30 seconds, test for less than 15 ohms between the low reference circuit terminal 6 and ground.
  5. If greater than 15 ohms, test the low reference circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuits test normal, replace the EBCM.
  6. Test the lateral accelerometer 12-volt ignition circuit terminal 1 for a short to voltage or ground.
  7. If all circuits test normal, replace the yaw rate sensor/lateral acceleration sensor, cycle the ignition switch and perform the yaw rate sensor recalibration procedure with the scan tool.
If the DTC sets again after replacing the yaw rate sensor/lateral acceleration sensor, replace the EBCM.

Repair Instructions
