Radiator Replacement L26

Tools Required

J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers

Removal Procedure

  1. Partially drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.
  2. Remove the cooling fan shroud assembly. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement.

  3. Object Number: 1664239  Size: SH
  4. Remove the condenser line to radiator retaining bolt.

  5. Object Number: 1685731  Size: SH
  6. Using J 38185 reposition the hose clamps from the radiator outlet hose.
  7. Remove the radiator outlet hose from the radiator.

  8. Object Number: 1664240  Size: SH
  9. Remove the condenser mounting bolts.

  10. Object Number: 287613  Size: SH

    Important: Care should be taken when removing the condenser not to damage the lower attachment points of both the radiator and condenser.

  11. Lift the condenser upward slightly in order to release the lower feet from the lower mounting features located at the front of the radiator.

  12. Object Number: 1685730  Size: SH
  13. Lift the radiator up and out the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the radiator to the vehicle.

  2. Object Number: 287613  Size: SH

    Important: Care should be taken when installing the condenser not to damage the lower attachment points of both the radiator and condenser.

  3. Position the condenser, aligning the lower feet to the lower mounting features located at the front of the radiator.
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1664240  Size: SH

    Important: The bolts retaining the condenser to the radiator end tanks are a special length and should be the ONLY bolts used upon reinstallation. The use of longer bolts will damage the radiator end tanks.

  5. Install the condenser mounting bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 13 N·m (115 lb in).

  7. Install the radiator outlet hose to the radiator.
  8. Using J 38185 reposition the radiator outlet hose clamp.

  9. Object Number: 1664239  Size: SH
  10. Install the condenser line to radiator retaining bolt.
  11. Install the cooling fans. Refer to Engine Cooling Fan Replacement.
  12. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.

Removal Procedure

  6. Using J 38185 reposition the hose clamps from the radiator outlet hose.
  7. Remove the radiator outlet hose from the radiator.

  9. Remove the condenser mounting bolts.
