SERVICE GUILD: TAILGATE AJAR LIGHT ON INTERMITTENTLY/REPAIR

1988-89 B-WAGONS

Some 1988 and 1989 B-car station wagons may have a tailgate ajar lamp that comes on or stays on intermittently. This condition may be repaired by replacing the right lower tailgate latch and switch assembly. The new latch and switch assembly, is P/N 16607735 and is currently available from CANSPO.

The new latch and switch assembly is a direct replacement for the prior assembly, but has internal design features to address the intermittent lamp condition.

When replacing the latch and switch assembly, make sure to refer to the Service Manual, Body Section 10-7 for proper installation and tailgate alignment procedures.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
