Did you perform the Lighting System Diagnostic System Check?

Important:: Vehicle shift lever must be out of the PARK position in order for the daytime running lamps (DRL) to operate.

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Verify the wipers are in the OFF position.
  3. Position the headlight switch in the OFF position.
  4. Depress and hold the brake pedal.
  5. Move the gear selector out of park position.
  6. Expose the sunload sensor assembly to a bright light.
  7. Wait more than 20 seconds.
  8. Observe the DRL lamps.
  9. Cover the sunload sensor assembly.
  10. Wait more than 20 seconds.
  11. Position the gear selector in the park position.
  12. Release the brake pedal.
  13. Turn OFF the ignition.

Did the DRL operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Install a scan tool.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Verify the shift lever is in the PARK position.
  5. With a scan tool, observe the Daytime Running Lamp status in the dash integration module (DIM) Outputs data list.

Does the scan tool display OFF status?

Go to Step 4

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the DRL relay. Refer to Relay Replacement in Wiring Systems.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Did the DRL turn OFF?

Go to Step 5

Connect a test lamp between the DRL relay control side supply voltage circuit and the DRL relay control circuit.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 6

Test the DRL relay control circuit of the DRL relay for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 13

Test the twilight sentinel delay signal circuit of the DIM for a short to battery positive voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the DIM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the DRL relay. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the short to battery positive voltage in the left headlamp high beam/DRL control ground circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Important: After replacement perform the setup procedure for the DIM. Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration in Body Control System.

Replace the DIM. Refer to Dash Integration Module Replacement in Body Control System.

Replace the DRL relay. Refer to Relay Replacement in Wiring Systems.

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
