Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement w/o HUD

Removal Procedure

    Caution: When you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, you must disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause air bag deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Remove the defroster grill. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 428506  Size: SH
  4. Remove left and right windshield garnish moldings. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement in Interior Trim.
  5. Remove the right instrument panel (IP) outer trim cover. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement - Right Side .
  6. Remove the left IP outer trim cover. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement - Left Side .
  7. Remove the fasteners (1, 2, 3) that secure the IP upper trim pad to the carrier.
  8. Lift the pad upward in order to disengage the retainers from the IP.
  9. Disconnect the sunload sensor (4).

Installation Procedure

  1. Connect the sunload sensor (4).
  2. Align the IP upper trim pad with the retainers and press down in order to engage.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the fasteners (1, 2, 3) in order to secure the IP upper trim pad to the carrier.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  6. Install the right instrument panel (IP) outer trim cover. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement - Right Side .
  7. Install the left IP outer trim cover. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement - Left Side .
  8. Install left and right windshield garnish moldings. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement in Interior Trim.
  9. Install the defroster grill. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement .
  10. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.

  5. Remove the left IP outer trim cover. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement - Left Side .
  6. Remove the right IP outer trim cover. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement - Right Side .
  7. Remove the fasteners (1, 2, 3) that secure the IP upper trim pad to the carrier.
  8. Lift the pad upward in order to disengage the retainers from the IP.
  9. Disconnect the sunload sensor (4).
