GM Service Manual Online
For 1990-2009 cars only

The overhead console has a multifunction switch that controls both the vent and slide options.

The sunroof has both manual and express features for opening the glass panel and sunshade.

The sunroof glass may be moved by switch control to any of the following positions:

    • Express open (glass opens to within 100 mm (4 in) of full open)
    • Slide fully open (retracted into the roof cavity)
    • Vent fully open (rear of glass raised to the limit of its travel)
    • Partially open in either slide or vent mode
    • Fully closed (flush with the vehicle roof)

Express Open/Comfort Stop

The sunroof may be opened to this position by the following method:

Press and release the switch to the second rearward position. If the switch is held longer than 1.5 seconds, the control module will override the express open option.

Opening Sunroof to the Slide Fully Open Position

The sunroof may be opened to this position by using one of the following methods:

    • Normal open
The switch must be held rearward until fully opened.
    • Express open
       - Momentarily push the switch rearward to the second position, (less than 1.5 seconds). The glass will stop at the comfort stop position.
       - Momentarily push the switch rearward again to continue express open or hold the switch rearward to control the amount of glass travel to the fully open position.

Opening Sunroof to the Vent Fully Open Position

The sunroof can be opened to this position by using the following method:

Normal open

The rear of the switch must be held upward until opened.

Opening Sunroof to the Partially Slide/Vent Open Positions

The sunroof can be opened to these positions by using the following method:

Normal open

The switch must be held until the desired open position is obtained.

Closing Sunroof to the Fully Closed Position

The sunroof may be closed to this position by using the following method:

    • Normal vent close
The rear of the switch must be held downward (vent close position) or push the switch forward until closed.
    • Normal close
The switch must be pushed forward or held downward until closed. As the glass panel slides closed, it will open slightly toward the vent position, then seat in order to provide a better seal.

Stuck Switch Protection

If any vent or slide switch is closed for more than 30 seconds, the sunroof control module considers the switch a stuck switch. In this case, the switch input is ignored by the sunroof control module until the switch is opened or the power is cycled to the module. Only under these conditions is the sunroof allowed to close from any position. Once the closed position is obtained, no further sunroof operation is allowed until the stuck switch is opened or the power is cycled to the module.
