Did you perform the HVAC Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Adjust the air flow discharge using the mode buttons on the heater and A/C control.

Does the air flow change discharge locations?

Go to Step 3

With a scan tool, command the HTR/DEF/AC door position from Defrost to Panel.

Does the air flow change discharge locations?

Go to Step 5

  1. Perform the Recalibrate all Motors command in the instrument panel module Special Functions using the scan tool.
  2. Observe the current DTC list in the instrument panel module using the scan tool.

Does the scan tool display any DTCs.

  1. Fully open all panel outlets.
  2. Select PANEL mode.
  3. Set the blower speed to illuminate 2 bars on the blower speed display.
  4. Inspect for airflow through the inside air temp sensor by placing a 5cm (2in) square piece of paper over the sensor air inlet.

Does the paper stay in place?

Inspect the mode actuator for binding or mechanical failure.

Inspect for blocked or misaligned ducts.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the inside air temp sensor. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the inside air temp sensor resistance. Refer to Sensor Resistance Table .

Is the resistance within the specified values?

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the outside air temperature sensor. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the outside air temperature sensor resistance. Refer to Sensor Resistance Table .

Is the resistance within the specified values?

Inspect for blockage, disconnected or poor fitting foam seals at the sensor air inlet.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the mode actuator. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the mode actuator. Refer to Mode Actuator Replacement .

  1. Start the engine.
  2. Operate the system. Refer to the appropriate procedure:
