Visually inspect the SWITCH fuse in the steering column fuse holder.

Is the SWITCH fuse OK?

  1. Place the headlamp switch in the PARK position.
  2. Set the interior dimming to the brightest level.
  3. Backprobe the connector C202 with a DMM from cavity A2 (GRY) to ground.

Is the voltage greater than the specified value?

8V

Backprobe the connector C202 with a DMM from cavity A2 (GRY) to cavity A14 (BLK).

Is the voltage greater than the specified value?

8V

  1. Disconnect the steering wheel controls connector.
  2. Connect a DMM from the steering wheel controls connector cavity B to cavity D.

Is the voltage greater than the specified value?

8V

Inspect the steering wheel controls connector for the proper terminal contact. Refer to Testing for Electrical Intermittents in Wiring Systems.

Is the steering wheel controls connector OK?

Repair the short to ground in the steering column wiring between the steering column fuse holder and the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Replace the SWITCH fuse in the steering column fuse holder.

Repair the open in CKT 8 (GRY) between S244 (Oldsmobile and Buick) or S291 (Pontiac) and C202. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open in CKT 1250 (BLK) between S225 and C202. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect the connector C202 for the proper terminal contact. Refer to Testing for Electrical Intermittents in Wiring Systems.

Is connector C202 OK?
