SERVICE MANUAL UPDATE/REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY PROGRAMMING

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1989 C (NEW INFORMATION, TO CORRECT ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS MANUAL)

This bulletin supersedes information regarding programming procedures for the Remote Keyless Entry System found in the Electra and LeSabre Electrical Systems Manual. This procedure should be followed when replacing keyless entry module or either transmitter:

1. Leave the ignition key in the "off" position.

2. Jumper program connector terminal A (Pnk) to terminal B (Blk/Yel) (Door locks will lock and unlock in approximately 2 seconds). Refer to Figure 1.

3. Press any button on one transmitter once. (Door locks will lock and unlock in approximately 2 seconds). This will program the first transmitter.

4. Repeat Step 3 using the other transmitter. If only one transmitter is being used, disconnect jumper.

5. Disconnect jumper from program connector.

IMPORTANT: This information corrects the "Keyless Entry Module Input Test" found in the Electra Electrical Systems Manual. TEST A: -------

Keyless Entry Module Input test must be done with both the blue and black connectors disconnected from the receiver module. A 11 jumpering should be done with the ignition key off. The note at pin E of connector C1 (Blue) should say: Jumpering to battery locks all doors except the driver's door.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
