7.5 INCH REAR PINION BEARING REMOVER TOOL

A LARGER DIAMETER REAR PINION BEARING WAS PHASED INTO PRODUCTION IN LATE 1980 REQUIRING THE USE OF A DIFFERENT PINION BEARING REMOVER. THE TOOL J-21493-01 SHOWN ON PAGE 4B-15 OF THE 1981 SERVICE MANUAL IS FOR THE SMALLER DIAMETER REAR PINION BEARING. THE TOOL REQUIRED FOR REMOVING THE LARGER DIAMETER PINION BEARING IS J-22912-01, THIS TOOL WAS PREVIOUSLY RELEASED AS ESSENTIAL. AXLE ASSEMBLIES BUILT WITH THE LARGER DIAMETER PINION BEARING ARE IDENTIFIED BY AN UPSIDE DOWN LETTER A OR B CAST INTO THE UPPER FORWARD SIDE OF THE CARRIER HOUSING ASSEMBLY.
