WIRE WHEEL COVER NOISE VEHICLES WITH N91 OPTION

MODELS AFFECTED: 1988-89 SKYLARKS, CENTURYS AND REGALS AND 1988 ELECTRAS AND LESABRES ALL WITH OPTION N91

This bulletin has been revised to include 1988-89 Skylark, Century, and Regal models.

Comments have been received of noisy wire wheel covers on the above mentioned models. This condition can be addressed by using the Insulation Kit (part number 25536180) referred to in Buick Bulletin 88-3-22.

Use the following installation procedure:

1. Prior to installation, wipe centering clips clean of dirt and grease with wax and grease remover or adhesive cleaner.

2. Remove adhesive tape liner from insulator.

3. Slide insulator slit toward ring (see illustration) over outer curl of cover (5 places) where centering clips exist. Press firmly to ensure adhesion.

4. Slide rubber O-Ring on lock bracket stud.

5. Install wheel cover.

6. Inspect wheel cover to ensure no contact to wheel weights.

NOTICE: To prevent a recurring noise, do not use a hammer or mallet to install wire wheel covers. This may result in damage to the wheel cover rim or anti-rotation clips.

Parts are currently available from GMSPO.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
