85 DIESEL ENGINE INJECTION PUMP- WARRANTY INFORMATION
Models Affected: All 1985 Models
Repairs to the 1985 diesel injection pump may qualify under the terms of one or more of the following warranties:
Basic Coverage of 12 months/12,000 miles
Major Assembly Coverage (Electra Sedans and Coupe Only) of 36 months /50,000 miles
Powertrain Coverage (Diesel Engine) of 36 months/50,000 miles
Emission Components Defect Coverage of 5 years/50,000 miles (10 years/100,000 miles California Diesel Engine Option)
Emission Performance Warranty of 24 months/24,000 miles
For the language of each warranty which defines what is covered, refer to Section 1, Part 1 of the 1985 Buick Service Policies and Procedures Manual and Section 1, Part 2 for additional information on specific items.
Note: In those cases where repairs qualify under EITHER the Major Assembly OR Powertrain Coverage AND Emission Control Systems Warranties, the Emissions Warranty will apply with NO deductible.
The diesel pump manufacturer has agreed to perform repairs qualified under warranty coverage thru authorized pump repair service agencies at no charge during the New Vehicle Limited Warranty Basic Coverage of 12 months/12,000 miles (including the optional limited warranty extension). Repairs such as external seals, gaskets and solenoid are to be normally performed by the Buick dealer and should not be provided to the pump repair service facility for repair. Labor Time Guide allowances for such repairs as can be performed by the Buick dealer are published in the Labor Time Guide or Dealer Service Bulletins.
Repairs Which Can Be Performed By The Buick Dealer
Such repairs which can be performed by the Buick dealer, and which are covered by the warranties listed above, are to be submitted as a warranty Buick.
Repairs Which Cannot Be Performed By The Buick Dealer
If the diesel pump requires a repair which cannot be performed by the Buick dealer, the pump is to be removed, packaged correctly (refer to Packaging Procedure section of this bulletin), and sent to the nearest authorized pump repair service facility (a list of those facilities and their locations appear in this bulletin). The facility will then repair the unit or furnish an exchange unit to the Buick dealer.
Warranty information for repairs performed by an authorized pump repair facility is as follows:
1. During New Vehicle Limited Warranty Basic Coverage
Pump repairs will be performed at no charge by the authorized pump repair service facility due to defects in materials of workmanship. The Buick dealer may submit a warranty claim for the labor to remove and reinstall the repaired or exchanged pump plus the normal shipping charges incurred.
NOTE: An additional 0.2 hour administrative allowance will be paid on warranty claims when diesel pumps are repaired by an authorized pump repair service facility. To obtain this allowance list the 0.2 as "Other Labor Hours" with the labor operation for R&R of the unit.
2. Beyond The New Vehicle Limited Warranty Basic Coverage Period But During the Major Assembly or Powertrain Coverage or Emissims Control Systems Warranties
The dealer is to pay for the repairs performed by the authorized pump repair service facility. The dealer may submit a warranty claim to Buick for the labor to remove and reinstall the repaired or exchanged pump plus the normal shipping charges incurred and the sublet repair charge from the pump repair facility.
Claims for repairs under the Major Assembly or Powertrain Coverage will be subject to the $100 per repair visit deductible amount.
NOTE: An additional 0.2 hour administrative allowance will be paid on warranty claims when diesel pumps are repaired by an authorized pump repair service facility. To obtain this allowance list the 0.2 as "Other Labor Hours" with the labor operation for R&R of the unit.
A SPECIAL WARRANTY REPAIR CLAIM (FORM 7221) MUST BE COMPLETED AND SUBMITTED WITH THE INOPERATIVE UNIT TO THE AUTHORIZED PUMP REPAIR SERVICE FACILITY. AN EXAMPLE OF THIS FORM IS SHOWN ON PAGE 4.
It is essential that careful and thorough diagnosis of the injection pump be made by the dealer technician before removal. Accurate diagnosis will prevent tying up the owner's car unnecessarily and eliminate the shipping and handling expense of sending the injection pump to an authorized pump repair service facility when no defects are present in the unit.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPLETION OF FORM 7221
ALL ENTRIES MADE ON THIS FORM (EXCEPT THE DEALER SIGNATURE) MUST BE TYPED
ITEM 1 - R.O. NUMBER AND R.O. DATE - The Repair Order Number and Repair Order Date must be typed in the appropriate spaces.
ITEM 2 - VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER - The complete vehicle I.D. Number must be typed in this space.
ITEM 3 - DELIVERY DATE AND MIIEAGE - Vehicle in service date and mileage at time of repair must be typed in.
ITEM 4 - COMPLETE OWNER NOTIFICATION - Complete owner name is to be typed in this area.
ITEM 5 - DEALER FIRM NAME AND DEALER CODE - Complete dealer firm name and address including zip code, plus the five (5) digit Buick dealer code must be typed in.
ITEM 6 - OPTIONAL EXTENDED WARRANTY - If the vehicle is covered under the Optional Extended Warranty Program, and the owner has the Validation Form, type an X in this box. Include time limit and mileage limit. A copy of the validation form must accompany this form when submitted to the pump repair service facility.
ITEM 7 - INJECTION PUMP MODEL AND SERIAL NUMBERS - This information is found on the pump data plate.
ITEM 8 - TROUBLE SHOOTING GUIDE AND DEALER COMMENTS - Indicate the condition and explain in the comments section.
ITEM 9 - DISTRIBUTION: Yellow - Dealer Copy; White, Blue and Pink - Send with part to pump repair service facility; Pink Copy - Completed by pump repair service facility and returned to dealer for GM Division scrap copy.
PACKAGING PROCEDURE:
All dealers have been supplied with special shipping cartons which will protect the injection pump from shipping damage. Follow packaging instructions on the shipping carton. Additional cartons are available through authorized pump repair service facilities.
Make sure that all possible fuel is drained from the units before packaging. Install caps to prevent foreign material from entering the openings. The pump must also be placed in the plastic bag contained in the carton for additional protection against fuel spillage. Place the pink, blue and white copies of Form 7221 in the carton and ship the unit prepaid to the nearest pump repair facility.
The shipping charges are to be submitted to Buick on the warranty claim along with the labor to remove and reinstall the pump as a "Sublet" amount. The repaired or exchange unit will be shipped to the dealer "prepaid" by the pump repair facility.
DAMAGE OR THEFT IN TRANSIT:
Injection pumps which are damged or stolen from the car during transit must be handled as a Transportation Claim. New injection pumps are available through WDDCM for this purpose.
