A/C COMPRESSOR SHAFT SEAL INFORMATION

VEHICLES AFFECTED: All 1984

A new A/C compressor shaft seal has been implemented on all R-4 and DA-6 A/C compressors during the 1984 model year. A new one-plece lip seal has replaced the two-piece ceramic carbon seal. The lip seal is a quality improvement and is anticipated to improve shaft seal field performance. Inspection and shaft seal service must be made as follows:

DA-6 compressor originally produced with two-piece ceramic carbon seal must be serviced with a Lwo-piece seal (Part Number 2724280).

DA-6 compressors produced with the one-piece lip seal must be serviced with a one-piece seal (Part number 2724319).

R-4 compressors originally

must be serviced with a two-piece seal (Part Number 12301828) for proper shaft seal function.

R-4 compressors originally

serviced with either a one-plece seal (Part Number 2724319) or the two-piece seal (Part Number 12301828).
