DEFINITION: This table diagnoses the wipers operate normally but will not return to the park position when the wiper operation is cancelled.

Did you review the Wiper/Washer System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

Go to Step 2

Go to Diagnostic Starting Point - Wiper/Washer Systems

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Move the wiper switch to the LO position.
  3. Move the wiper switch to the OFF position.

Do the front wipers return to the park position?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Go to Step 3

  1. Disconnect the wiper motor connector.
  2. Using a test lamp, back probe between the park circuit and ground at the wiper motor connector.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Move the wiper switch to the LO position.

Does the test lamp flash On and Off with each rotation of the wiper motor?

Go to Step 5

Test for the following in the windshield wiper motor park switch signal circuit:

    • An open
    • A poor connection
    • A short to battery positive voltage

Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 8

Go to Step 7

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the wiper motor. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .

Replace the wiper motor. Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement .

Did you complete the replacement?

Replace the body control module. Refer to Control Module References for replacement, setup, and programming.

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
