Preliminary Procedures

1. Disable the supplementary inflatable restraint (SIR) system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
2. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
3. Remove the steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement .

Connectors, Coil to Steering Column Harness.

Tip
Remove the wire harness straps from the steering wheel column wire harness.

Ring, Retaining (Qty: 1)

Tip
When installing the retaining ring 1, ensure that the retaining ring is firmly seated in the groove 2 on the steering column shaft.

Coil, SIR

Notice: The new SIR coil assembly will be centered. Improper alignment of the SIR coil assembly may damage the unit, causing an inflatable restraint malfunction.

Tip

1. Ensure that the SIR coil is centered before removing it.
2. When installing the SIR coil, ensure that the turn signal cancel cam assembly and the SIR coil are aligned.
